The Educational Power of Participatory Budgeting

How the Participatory Budgeting process inspires and trains new civic leaders, lays the groundwork for other types of deliberative engagement, and rebuilds trust among disengaged communities.

In this webinar, we were joined by Thea Crum and Drew Brown, who have led PB projects with schools in Arizona, rural communities in Colorado, and across Chicago.

Thea and Drew shared their experiences launching and evaluating PB projects and how it helps participants (of all ages) learn democracy by doing. They discussed questions to consider when setting up your own PB process, and how it can open the door to future local deliberation and participation among youth and disengaged communities.

We'll be sharing the recording of the session along with a recap article covering the main take-aways shortly.

Guests:

Thea Crum, Director of the Neighborhoods Initiative at the Great Cities Institute at University of Illinois

Drew Brown, Expert in Participatory Budgeting in communities, schools, and organizations

Moderator:

Ben Gordon, Business Development Manager US
