The city of Ostend (Oostende) launched its city platform this week! This city has decided to use CitizenLab in order to co-create the city with the help of their citizens. Ostend can understand the vision of their citizens and implement suggested ideas in order to improve their city.
Promoting Citizen Participation
The city has decided to include citizens in order to build a better future for Ostend. The collaboration between the citizens and the government will facilitate decision-making and increase citizen participation and satisfaction. This will help make the correct improvements and changes the city needs. Ostend is a Belgian costal city in the province of West Flanders. It has a population of over 70,000 inhabitants, a few have already signed up to the platform and started posting ideas. Feel free to have a look at http://oostende.citizenlab.co/.
Cities Relying on CitizenLab
Other than Ostend, other cities that are already using CitizenLab include: Geel and Hasselt. Other cities are in the process of finalising their platform in order to launch soon, such as Vilvoorde (BE), Sint-Niklaas (BE), Aalst (BE) and Schiedam (NL).
CitizenLab in Your City?
CitizenLab is a civic engagement platform on which citizens co-create their city. The platform facilitates a two-way communication between the city and its citizens. Citizens post ideas, discuss them with each other and upvote the best ideas. On the other hand, the city uses CitizenLab to consult the opinion of its citizens and to crowdsource their creative solutions to an existing problem. Our ready-to-use, yet fully customisable software solution helps cities tap into the collective intelligence of the citizens in order to enrich urban decision-making with their insights.
