The Chinese city of Yinchuan and TM Forum organise this week an impressive Smart City conference called ‘Smart City InFocus‘. The conference gathers both public and private leaders in the smart city space to discuss the future of our cities. And CitizenLab will be present as well, meet us there!
TM Forum – the global member association for digital business – brings together smart city innovators from all over the world in the Chinese city of Yinchuan. This invite-only event, funded by the Chinese government, will host over 43 speakers from 26 different cities who’ll share their case study on urban development and how the city of tomorrow will look like.
The topics to be discussed are, amongst others: ‘City as a Platform‘ (on which we wrote an extensive blog post a few months ago), collaborative cities, and leveraging big data in an urban context. You might wonder though why the City of Yinchuan is hosting this gigantic event. The answer is clear: the city has transformed into a truly smart city over the last years, both in infrastructure as in public services. To give an example, big data plays a major role in how the city is governed. Data insights are taken out of their huge city database, consisting of city’s population, economy, buildings and infrastructure, and spatial geographic information.
Meet CitizenLab in Yinchuan
CitizenLab will be present at the smart city conference as well. I am very much looking forward to meeting brights minds in the smart city space, and share thoughts on smart governance and the role of citizen participation in smart cities. Hit me up at firstname.lastname@example.org or @WietseVR in case you’d be there!
